Parents & Loved Ones

Colorado has had the highest increase in the teen suicide rate since 2016, increasing by 58% in just 3 years (CPR, 2019) Nationally, suicide is the second-leading cause of death for individuals aged 15-24. How can we work together to mitigate this trend? Research shows that about 80% of teens who attempt suicide give clear warning signs.

Take all suicide threats seriously. When an individual has thoughts of suicide, they will typically talk about it, threaten suicide or call a suicide hotline and individuals who follow these behavior patterns are 30 times more likely than average to kill themselves.

Mental health is more than just staying alive, it’s quality of life. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approximately one out of five adolescents has a diagnosable mental health disorder, and nearly one-third show symptoms of depression. CTS offers free depression screenings for teens and adults. Click here to reach our contact box where you can request your free screening. This screening includes a brief assessment test and a half hour session with a counselor to discuss the results and appropriate treatment options, or any other concerns.
